Emergency work forces lane closure.

AN EMERGENCY closure of the left lane of the A470 southbound from Abercynon to Pontypridd is taking place with immediate effect.

The closure of the inside lane is necessary as the parapet section of the retaining wall between the A470 and Cilfynydd Road above has deteriorated and is deemed structurally unsafe.

Engineers have assessed the wall and the removal of a section of the masonry parapet is expected to take place this morning.

The single lane closure on the southbound direction of the A470 between the junctions of Abercynon and Pontypridd will take place.

Temporary traffic lights are also being introduced on Cilfynydd Road.

Once the emergency work on the retaining wall is completed the closure will be lifted but the traffic lights will remain on Cilfynydd Road for the foreseeable future.
