Emergency Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion project for 20,000 most vulnerable men, women, girls and boys, including those with disabilities amongst conflict and or floods affected; IDPs and extremely vulnerable host communities.

Sector/Cluster : Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Objectives : The purpose of this project is to increase access to safe water and improved sanitation facilities and; hygiene practices for 20,000 acutely vulnerable persons (3,500 women, 2,000 men, 7,000 boys and 7,500 Girls) including those with disabilities amongst the most vulnerable host communities and IDPs in Jonglei state of South Sudan, by 31st December 2014.

HELP will specifically focus on the following areas:1. Increase timely and equitable access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services to IDPs and the most vulnerable host communities affected by conflict or flooding, and to maintain stability in these areas by drilling and equipping 6 Bore Holes, distribution of 10,000 safe water containers, and construction of

250 household sanitation facilities through CLTS including intensive hygiene promotion campaigns in 3 counties in line with WASH cluster priorities and sphere standards on humanitarian WASH actions.2. Strengthen the capacity of these acutely vulnerable communities to withstand the impact of conflict or floods on WASH needs, with a priority on BH drilling in vulnerable communities, flood prevention in 6 schools and sanitation

facilities construction in 6 schools.3. Facilitate behavior change in acutely vulnerable communities in hygiene and sanitation practice through targeted hygiene promotion services focusing on 3,500 women, 2,000 men 7,500 girls and 7,000 boys through improved access to and use of sanitation facilities. Key messages will be passed through relevant Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials which will be disseminated through schools, market centers, dispensaries.

Beneficiaries Total: 20,000 Acutely vulnerable IDPs and host-communities (including those with disabilities). Selection of beneficiaries will be done in close consultation with the targeted communities; a general meeting will at first be held so as to

discuss details of the project and agree on beneficiary targeting using basic PRA tools; local leaders will then be tasked to compile the list of potential beneficiaries after

Other group: 2,000 Will target to have 70% women and youth above 18 years of age as direct beneficiaries particularly for hygiene promotion services including recipients of sanitary kits, safe water containers etc; these are traditionally care givers to the rest of the family
