Elvis just keeps on rockin'.. and earnin'.

THE King may be long dead - but his estate continues to grow.

Elvis Presley has been named the world's biggest-earning dead celebrity, whose wealth outstrips former Beatle John Lennon and Lord Of The Rings author JRR Tolkien.

Although he died 25 years ago this week, interest in Presley is as great as ever.

A remixed version of A Little Less Conversation fronted Nike's World Cup advertising campaign and topped the UK singles chart, bringing his songs to a whole new generation.

In the past year alone, Presley earned dollars 37 million (pounds 24.1 million), according to the US business website Earnings From The Crypt list.

The site says: "One might not think of death as an optimal career move, but, for some celebrities, crossing over to the far side doesn't hurt their income in the least."

The top-earning dead celebrities also included Charles Schulz, creator of the Peanuts cartoon strip, in second place with dollars 28 million (pounds 18.2million).

John Lennon was third with earnings of dollars 20million (pounds 13million), with his former fellow Beatle George Harrison a new entry at No.6 with dollars 17 million (pounds 11.1million), while the blockbuster films of JRR Tolkien's books have swelled his estate, putting him in seventh place with dollars 12million (pounds 7.8million).

The list names the top 13 dead celebs, compiled by Forbes, who calculate pre-tax earnings to each deceased's estate.
