Elvis Crespo Earns Grammy Nomination for Latin Smash "Suavemente".

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Jan. 8, 1999--Sony Discos merengue star Elvis Crespo has been nominated for a Grammy in the Best Tropical Latin Performance category for his first solo album Suavemente. (Which has spawned two No. 1 singles). This was announced earlier this week by The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). Elvis is a former member of the popular merengue group Grupo Mania.

Suavemente and its catchy dance title-tune single have been taking the Spanish and American market by storm. The album reached the No. 1 position on both Billboard's Latin 50 and Tropical/Salsa chart. At the same time, "Suavemente" hit No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks and Tropical/Salsa chart where it remained No. 1 for 9 weeks.

Due to popular demand, Sony Discos released the English language remix of "Suavemente" which is top 10 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Maxi Singles chart. The single is being played in heavy rotation at Power 96 in Miami, and WKTU radio in New York City.

"Suavemente" is also featured on the soundtrack for Dance With Me, the movie which stars Vanessa Williams and Chayanne.
