Elk expands, files lawsuit.
The plant will supply material to Elk's roofing plants in Ennis and Tuscaloosa, AL and its new roofing plant currently under construction in Shafter, CA, as well as sell fiberglass mat roofing substrates to other roofing manufacturers. The Shafter facility is expected to be completed this fall.
In terms of nonwovens, Elk will now be able to further expand external shingle, carpet, facer and building products using fiberglass mat as well as other polyester industrial nonwoven markets such as air and liquid filtration.
In other Elk news, the company was recently granted a design patent covering its "Prestique High Definition" shingles; Elk then filed a patent infringement suit against GAF Building Materials Corporation. Alleging that two of GAF's products. "Timberline Ultra Natural Shadow: Shingles, infringe on the Prestique patent.
