Electronic Arts, Mpath announce online game agreement and investment.

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 1997--Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS), a leading global interactive entertainment software company, and Mpath Interactive, a privately held Internet entertainment company, today announced a license agreement that will bring several of Electronic Arts' titles to the Mplayer service.

The pact will provide the Electronic Arts (EA) titles to Mplayer, Mpath's award-winning Internet multiplayer game service, on an exclusive basis. In addition, Electronic Arts has made a minority investment in Mpath. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The agreement comes on the heels of PC Gamer's selection of Mplayer ( as the leading multiplayer game service. In its April edition, the magazine gave Mplayer its highest rating, citing the service's speed, ease of use and quality opponents. In recent weeks Mplayer has won similar acknowledgment from Computer & Net Player, GameSpot and Network Computing.

The companies also said that Electronic Arts will utilize Mpath Foundation, the technology and business systems behind Mplayer, to deploy additional offerings on the World Wide Web under its own brands.
