Election hopefuls line-up.

THE nominations closed yesterday for candidates to stand in the Welsh Assembly elections on May 5. Candidates have until April 6 to withdraw.

Ten political parties plus one Independent candidate will also contest the four North Wales regional seats.

Declared candidates are: ABERCONWY: Janet Finch-Saunders, Welsh Conservative; Iwan Huws, Plaid Cymru; Mike Priestley, Welsh Liberal Democrats; Eifion Wyn Williams, Labour and Co-operative Party.

ARFON: Aled Davies, Welsh Conservative; Alun Ffred Jones, Plaid Cymru; Rhys Jones, Welsh Liberal Democrats; Christina Elizabeth Rees, Welsh Labour.

DWYFOR MEIRIONNYDD: Simon Baynes, Welsh Conservative; Stephen William Churchman, Welsh Liberal Democrat; Dafydd Elis-Thomas, Plaid Cymru; Louise Hughes, Llais Gwynedd; Martyn Stuart Singleton, Welsh Labour.

ALYN AND DEESIDE: John Bell, Welsh Conservative; Shane Brennan, Plaid Cymru; Carl Sargeant, Welsh Labour; Michael Joseph Whitby, British National Party; Peter Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrats.

DELYN: Carrie Harper, Plaid Cymru; Michele Jones, Welsh Liberal Democrats; Sandy Mewies, Welsh Labour; Matt Wright, Welsh Conservative.
