Elected mayor a waste of cash; Letters letters@coventrytelegraph.net.

I AM one of the people who do not want to elect a mayor.

I was always under the impression that people on the council worked their passage to become Lord Mayor of our city, and some have worked hard or given long service to achieve the first citizen role, so why do we have to have someone thrown at us from Parliament? When people are not happy with Westminster or the cronies from the corridors of power why do we have to have them running os ur city? I dread to think what will happen to Coventry.

And, finally, why do we have to pay pounds 130,000 in tough economic times. Just think of all the things Coventry could do with that money rather than wasting it on a Toytown Mayor.
