Elders' Elliott steps down as chief exec.

Australian conglomerate Elders IXL Ltd. announced that chief executive John Elliott has resigned from the position, but will remain on as chairman of the company.

Peter Bartels was named the new chief executive, having previously been in charge of Elders' brewing division.

During a corporate restructuring in March, when Elders announced plans to sell its natural resources and financial-services divisions to become a singe-purpose brewer called Foster's Brewing Group, Elliott said he would step down from his position at some time.
