Elan to set up steel drum facility in Sharjah.

Sharjah-based Elan Incorporated, a leading polymer based industrial packaging company, is setting up a production facility for tight head and open top steel drums of up to 220 litres capacity for the petrochemical and chemical industries in UAE.

Elan's new state-of-the-art manufacturing unit will be set up at the Hamriyah Free Zone, and will have a capacity of over 2 million drums per annum, said a statement.

The project is likely to be completed by end of 2018 at an estimated cost of Dh35 million ($9.52 million), it said.

Elan has entered into a long-term lease agreement with Hamriyah Free Zone for setting up the factory, which will offer internationally acclaimed steel drums representing latest technology. This fully automated plant with the most modern manufacturing and testing facilities will be the first of its kind in the region, it added.

This new facility is an extension of Elan's current operations at Sharjah Free Zone, producing intermediate bulk containers, polymer containers and drums.

Anil Jain, one of the owners of Elan Incorporated, said: "Steel drum operations will allow us to reach out to the ever expanding petrochemical and chemical industries in the region, and forge long term partnerships," he said.

C Hubert, head of international operations of parent company, Time Technoplast Limited, said: "We have worked tirelessly for our valued customers in 12 countries and this new facility will help us service large number of users in the region."
