Celebrating culture in your library series

Z718

Dia is a library event or series of events designed to appeal to children of all languages and cultures. This book collects ideas for Dia programming in libraries and schools. Rather than just a day-long event, the book emphasizes a year-long commitment of literacy activities and provides information on developing cultural competencies for working with diverse populations and reaching the local community. The guide includes bilingual book selections, interviews with library directors, and an extensive list of resources to help libraries plan Dia programs, including annotated links for book lists and awards, publishers, distributors and online stores, websites, librarian toolkits and manuals, and an online manual for bilingual and multicultural programming. An appendix briefly describes best practices at 12 libraries around the US. The book is illustrated with b&w photos and illustrations. Larson teaches at Texas Women's University and serves on the Texas Library Association.
