El Camino Hospital Updates Community on Next Steps in Plans for New Los Gatos Location.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- El Camino Hospital, the hospital of Silicon Valley, updated the community today on a series of steps it is taking to move forward with its activation plans for the acquisition of the real estate and certain other assets of the 143-bed Community Hospital of Los Gatos (CHLG), following the decision of current CHLG operator Tenet Healthcare Corp. to close the hospital prior to the expiration of its lease on May 31.
"We acknowledge the uncertainty the community is experiencing over the closing of the hospital. We want to assure all concerned that our assigned task forces are moving forward as quickly as possible in preparation for the activation of our operations at the Los Gatos site," said Eric Pifer, M.D., chief medical officer, El Camino Hospital and incoming president of the Los Gatos location. "We at El Camino Hospital are dedicated to making the new hospital a preferred provider of care while honoring and building on the long history that CHLG's people have in the community."
Timing for Los Gatos Activation
Tenet's decision, announced on Jan. 8, 2009, to stop operations well in advance of its May 31 lease expiration means that all clinical activities at CHLG will cease on April 10. Once El Camino Hospital has unrestricted access to the Los Gatos site, the hospital's operational teams will need a minimum of 90 days to begin the activation of clinical services.
Key Activation Action Steps Underway
El Camino Hospital is pursuing a number of immediate actions as part of the work to prepare for the activation of the new Los Gatos site:
* Informational session: El Camino Hospital will be hosting an informational session on Monday, Jan. 19, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Los Gatos. Anyone interested in exploring potential employment opportunities at the new Los Gatos site or at El Camino Hospital should attend.
* Identification of future Los Gatos positions: Initial needs for future positions in clinical operations, finance, human resources, business development, IT and facilities will be posted in the near future to the Web site.
* Liaison Office opening: El Camino Hospital plans to open a liaison office in Los Gatos within the next two weeks. The office is designed to be a community resource for physicians, potential employees and members of the community who have questions about the activation plans. The office will be staffed by knowledgeable El Camino Hospital staff to answer questions and help contribute to a smooth opening at the Los Gatos location.
* Review of clinical needs: El Camino Hospital leaders are currently holding meetings with CHLG medical staff to determine the clinical services that will be offered at the Los Gatos location, according to Pifer.
