Eight-lane running track in SQSC awarded IAAF Class II Athletics Facility Certification.

The running track at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) is now officially certified by the International Associations of Athletics Federations (IF) as a Class II Athletics Facility. This marks the first time that a running track in Oman has the IF's endorsement, which makes Oman eligible to host GCC and Asian Athletic competitions.

The certificate was handed over to the Ministry of Sports Affairs (MoSA) during the track inauguration event. H E Rashad al Hinai, Undersecretary in the minA[degrees] istry, received the certification from Anil Khimji and Nilesh Khimji from Khimji Ramdas. The event was attended by Mohammed al Manwari, Director General of Projects in MoSA, Saeed al Shukaili, Director of Projects in MoSA, Mohammed al Amri, Director of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and other dignitaries.

The project was conceived and executed by Khimji Ramdas' Special Projects Division (SPD) with assistance from BSW, Germany for MoSA. With experiA[degrees] ence of over 25 years in the develA[degrees] opment of sports and fitness infrastructure, KR SPD brings in considerable technical know how to the project, while BSW supplied superior quality running track material.

Thomas Beitzel, export director of BSW, emphasised the imporA[degrees] tance of involving parties with the right amount of experience and technical knowledge in the installation and execution of such projects. "For large scale sports projects, it is very criA[degrees] tical to involve experienced and knowledgeable specialised sports companies."
