Eight teams sign up for Regatta Championship.

EIGHT teams have submitted their entries for the Kingdom of Bahrain Regatta Championship, set to take place from November 15 to 19 at the Bahrain Sailing Club near Al Jazayer Beach in Zallaq.

Confirmation from two teams from Russia, two from India, and one each from Switzerland, Estonia and Qatar, all taking part in the J24 class, were already received by the organisers.

More teams expected to sign up in the coming week for the five-day annual competition.

There are three more classes that were included in the championship. They are Laser Standard, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial and the Optimist.

Teams from Kuwait, Oman, Tunisia and Bahrain are scheduled to compete in all these four classes.

Meanwhile, the Bahrain Maritime Sports Association (BMSA) has kick-started its preparations to host the five-day event.

Following directives from BMSA president Shaikh Khalifa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, new spare parts were purchased and fixed on several J24 boats to get it prepared for sailing.

Renovation on other boats is also underway at the club. These boats will be seen in action in four different classes.

Shaikh Khalifa said the association is pleased to organise this event at the club, which also hosted several other sailing competitions in the past years like Al Bareh International Regatta and the annual Match Racing Championship.

The BMSA chief noted that having eight teams to compete in five different classes underlines the outstanding reputation of the kingdom gained in recent years.

He added that the association is working hard to make sure next month's event becomes an all-round success, and thanked all those who are sparing no efforts to prepare the venue and the boats ahead of the championship.
