Eight FATA Senators would support PPP in Chairman's elections: PPP claim.
Islamabad -- The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has claimed to have support of 8 independent senators from FATA.
According to details, after Senate polls, PPP is attempting to field its candidate for Chairman and Deputy Chairman Senate along with ruling PML-N and in this regard former President Asif Ali Zardari has given the task to party leaders to seek support of independent Senators.
A two member delegation of PPP leaders comprises of Dr. Qayyum Soomro and Salim Mandviwala has met with 8 Senators of FATA and invited them to join PPP.
The Senators of FATA including Hadayat-ullah, Hilal-ur-Rehman, Taj Mohammad Afraid, Aurangzeb Afraid, Sajjad Tori, Mirza Mohammad Afraid, Momin Khan Afraid and Nasir Khan Afraid have called on PPP's leaders.
The ruling PML-N is also active in the race of Chairman Senate. A independent Senator of FATA Mirza Mohammad Afraid on yesterday has called on former PM Nawaz Sharif and announced to join PML-N, however the Senators of FATA who met with PPP's delegation Mirza Mohammad Afraid was also included in this delegation.
Sources said that Dr. Qayyum Soomro has claimed to have support of 8 Senators of FATA and these Senators have decided to favor PPP for the protection of rights of FATA's people.
'The Senators of FATA would make their final announcement after meeting with Co-Chairman of PPP Asif Ali Zardari', Dr. Soomro added.
It is worth-mentioning here that PPP delegation headed by Dr. Soomro has visited Balochistan where the delegation met with newly elected Senators and Chief Minister Balochistan.
It is learnt that PPP has offered PTI to make joint efforts for the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of upper house of the parliament to create hurdles for ruling PML-N. The coordinators of PTI have expressed their consensus to table this offer to the top leadership of party.
PTI's sources have categorically said that we have presented a proposal to PPP that Chairman Senate should be elected from Independent Senators after making rebellion with PML-N. The PTI parliamentarians have expressed their willingness to cast their votes in favor of Independent candidate for Chairman instead of supporting PPP's candidate, however for Deputy Chairman Senate, the candidate of PPP would be supported, they added.
Any political party would be required the support of some 53 Senators to achieve the slot of Chairman Senate and currently ruling PML-N is at top list having 33 Senators. If the votes of allies of PML-N were included in it, then the ruling party has over 45 votes for the slot the Chairman Senate.
In Senate, PPP is the second party having 20 Senators while PPP is at the third position with the support of 12 Senators.
National Party (NP) and Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) have 5, 5 seats in Senate while JUI-F has 4 Senators.
