Egyptian protester shot dead by security forces near Gaza.
A protester was shot dead on Wednesday by Egyptian security forces close to the border with the Gaza Strip.
Gihad Silmi was part of a convoy of at least ten vehicles attempting to hold a demonstration at the El Gorah military base which is around ten miles from the Israeli border.
The campaigners wanted to express their sympathy with the people of Gaza who have been coming under fire from Israeli forces for the past week.
The convoy was stopped by military personnel who warned them to turn back. They did so, but when they returned to again attempt their demonstration, they were fired at by the military.
26-year-old Silmi died and another man in his vehicle was injured.
The spokesperson for Ahl Al Sunna, Hamdeen Abu Faisal, said the Egyptian military should be on the side of their people.
He said: "They should have been protecting the people and standing up to protect Muslims from their enemy but they took the other side.
"The one who was killed, our brother Gihad, was a young man, recently married with a young child."
A ceasefire agreed on Wednesday night between Israel and the Hamas movement has now ended eight days of bloodshed in Gaza.
