Editorial.

During my travels to Chemical Engineering Departments, I have noticed that the Chemical Engineering Research is evolving in several fascinating new directions and chemical engineers are active in advancing the knowledge in such broad frontier areas as micro fluidics, fuel cells, molecular dynamics, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, bioinformatics, advanced materials etc. Beginning with the current issue of The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering (CJChE), we are starting a new feature entitled "Frontiers in Chemical Engineering Research". It is our intention to feature at least one article in every issue of the CJChE under this title. The articles appearing under this title will normally be invited by the Editorial team. The authors are expected to be well established authorities in their own field. Authors contemplating a contribution to the CJChE under this title should first contact the Editor to assess the suitability of the topic. The first article in this series is written by Prof. Hsueh-Chia Chang, a leading authority in the area of Micro-fluidics. The article is entitled "Electro-Kinetics: A Viable Micro-fluidic Platform for Miniature Diagnostic Kits". I hope that the readers will find this article and the others to come in the future to be inspiring and that the young researchers and graduate students will see this initiative as opening new doors for them. I also hope that they will look to the CJChE to disseminate their own contributions in these newer areas. While we will continue to attract original contributions in the traditional areas of chemical engineering (such as transport phenomena, reaction engineering, thermodynamics, process control etc.) we also look forward to attracting contributions in the newer areas of Chemical Engineering Research.
