Edelman Financial Services, an independent financial planning and investment management firm, has said that it has appointed James Mendelsohn as its new chief marketing officer.

In his new role, Mendelsohn will oversee the company's marketing initiatives. The firm currently offers financial planning and investment management services to more than 30,000 individuals and families managing nearly USD16bn in assets.

Mendelsohn has over 20 years of experience in financial and consumer marketing. Most recently, he served as CMO of CAN Capital, where he led the company's rebranding, launched its digital acquisition channel and developed new products and segments. He also served as vice president of corporate strategy at Capital One (NYSE: COF) for 12 years, where he led efforts in marketing, digital and customer experience strategy across the credit card, banking and financial services. Mendelsohn also held leadership roles at McKinsey's marketing and sales practice.
