Ed Balls's 50p rich tax [...].

Byline: KEVIN MAGUIRE Stalking the corridors of power

Ed Balls's 50p rich tax is a rare tax - it's popular.

Instant polls found 60% backed the tax on the wealthy few earning upwards of PS3,000 a week - PS150,000 a year - with only 17% against. Only a lucky one in every 100 will be earning enough to pay it in a Britain where half of fulltimers are on less than PS26,500.

Labour's sketching a fair income tax policy by reintroducing 10p at the bottom and 50p at the top - to the self-interested howls of fatcats who simultaneously advocate benefit cuts on low-pay Britons.
