Ecologist to lead foraging walk at College of DuPage.

Byline: Submitted by COD News Bureau

Learn about ecological stewardship during a free STEMinar event featuring participatory ecologist, land steward and writer Michael Swierz at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Health and Science Center, Room 1234, at the College of DuPage Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

"Participatory Ecology and Foraging Walk: Can We Be Stewards of Biodiversity and Live Off the Land at the Same Time?" will address the joys and challenges of land stewardship and the potential for humans to have a positive ecological footprint on nature.

Swierz will guide participants through COD's Russell R. Kirk Prairie, exploring ways to draw sustenance and support from nature while also sustaining and supporting greater biodiversity.

Swierz's work combines aspects of poetry, farming, wildcrafting, ecological restoration and interspecies communication.

In 2017, he established People Are a Part of Nature, a project combining ecological stewardship with human subsistence to examine and redefine how humans interact with the natural world.
