BIRKENHEAD branch of the "Young Ladies Navy" is one year old this month and already membership has increased from five to 25. The Girls' Nautical Training Corps - to give it its correct title - was the idea of Mrs Patricia D'Henin, wife of Mr John D'Henin, who is commanding officer of Birkenhead Sea Cadets at T.S. Blackcap. "The girls who started with us a year ago are delighted with the way we have expanded." said Mrs D'Henin, "and we are looking forward to further expansion in our second year."
PROVIDING the entertainment in the lunchhour session at the Neptune Theatre, Liverpool, were a group of students and teachers from Liverpool's I.M. Marsh College. When she was born, Tinkerbelle, pictured with her owner, eightyear-old Wendy Newall, had a rather long bottom molar. The tooth grew so long that eventually it threatened to prevent the mouse from eating. So Wendy persuaded her parents that Tinkerbelle ought to have dental treatment and Tinkerbelle later returned home with a large molar trimmed down to normal mouse size.
