Echo comment: Name change decidedly naf!

IT'S not often that a South Wales council and flamboyant rockerby-appointment Elton John have anything in common.

But today we can reveal that, like the erstwhile Reg Dwight, Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council is to have a name change to strengthen its `brand'.

Amid much ballyhoo, stationery is to be altered, new road signs will be introduced and council vehicles will, eventually, sport a new, shorter name designed to save money on printing and livery costs.

And what exciting monicker has the Plaid Cymru-controlled authority gone for? Taffia, perhaps? Taffyland?

Valleyworld? All have a certain punchiness about them, are sure to save thousands on the council budget.

No. Instead, council chiefs have opted to take the final `F' off Taff and reduce the 29 letters in the title down to 28.

You have to wonder why they bothered.
