15 May 2013 - US genetic testing company Natera Inc has picked Spanish clinical analysis laboratory Echevarne as a distrubitor of its non-invasive prenatal screening test (NIPT), Panorama, in Spain, the parties said today.
The test, introduced in March, detects trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome), as well as sex chromosome abnormalities, including monosomy X (Turner's syndrome).
Panorama targets 19,500 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), using Natus, an advanced version of Natera's proprietary informatics.
The assay is now being tested in clinical studies for detection of other genetic disorders, such as XXY, XYY, XXX and triploidy.
