Easy debut? You cannot be serious..

RON McIntosh survived on half an apple as his tennis commentary debut became the longest in history.

BBC chiefs handed the 38-year-old the Isner v Mahut tie, thinking the minor clash would ease him in nicely.

But the first round match smashed world records and spanned three days as the final set lasted 138 games.

Ron, who usually commentates on boxing, said he had just "half an apple" while on air for over seven hours on the fifth set on Wednesday.

He added: "Breaks weren't really an option. It just carried on and on and on.

"The players aren't taking a break and so I'm there filling the airtime.

"I took only one bathroom break and that was as the sun was setting."
