Eastern Shore's 1st brewery opens

The Maryland Eastern Shore's only microbrewery, the Wild Goose Brewery, last week began production of its Wild Goose Amber beer, billed as the "only beer for crabs."

"We are extremely excited about introducing the people of this area to a fine and unique handcrafted beer," said Wild Goose brewmaster Alan Pugsley.

Pugsley, with a long and impressive resume, has started successful microbreweries in China, Belgium, Nigeria, Great Britain, France and Canada.

Initial distribution of the brew will include Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington, DC, with possible expansion in the future.

"Of course everyone wants to be a national beer, but you have to start local first," Pugsley explained. "It's all about supplying a top-quality beer and identifying with the local area."

Pugsley added that he expects the brewery to reach full production in three to four weeks.
