Business/Technology Editors

LYNN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2000

In a move designed to further strengthen its long-standing position as a leading refiner of precious metals, Eastern Smelting & Refining Corporation today has changed its name to Refinity(TM) Corporation.

Over the past year Jeff Plank, chairman of the board, who acquired the 100-year-old company in 1999, has launched a number of key initiatives to significantly focus the business, improve its processes, and raise the overall level of client satisfaction.

"Our new president, Robert J. Davis, brings to Refinity an enviable track record of industry success and a commitment to the needs of our precious metal clients," said Plank, who added, "Our twin ISO certification reflects our commitment to quality processes, client satisfaction and environmental stewardship. And a new Outright Purchase Plan provides our clients fast, guaranteed payment for their waste products".

Refinity has recently upgraded its management information systems to ensure smooth flow of data and rapid turnaround times. The company also has implemented new data-gathering and reporting systems along with advanced Web technology, which together provide clients with a greatly expanded window into the processing of their precious metals.

"With so many client-focused initiatives completed or currently underway we felt the time was right to update our name and corporate image," said Davis. "As we enter our second century we believe that the name Refinity will quickly come to be synonymous with the fundamental values of integrity, quality, and client satisfaction to which we are committed."

The company's new name and corporate identity will be made public for the first time at the IMAPS show in Boston.
