BRITAIN will bask in an Indian summer this week with temperatures set to soar to as high as 27C, weather forecasters predicted.

High pressure currently over Europe is set to drift northwards bringing warm southerly winds and sunshine to the North East.

Our first picture from the archive shows a couple taking advantage of the Indian summer stroll through Leazes Park in Newcastle. The pictured is dated October 17, 1951.

The second image is from photographer George Webster and shows great weather in his shot in of Holy Island on October 14, 2009.

Finally, our third image shows a police car driving along a flooded road in Whitley Bay. This was at the end of October in 2009 when the balmy spell of Indian summer weather ended rudely with the arrival of a windy washout.
