Easing of Roads' Congestions discussed between Ministry of Works' Assistant Undersecretary and municipal members.

Manama: Jan. 17 -- (BNA) As part of her regular meetings with members of municipal councils in order to find out the needs and demands of citizens in various governorates of the Kingdom, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works for Roads, engineer Huda Abdullah Fakhro, met with municipality member and representative of the first constituency in the Capital Governorate.

During the meeting, development project of the Palace Avenue was discussed. Municipality member Huda Fakhro submitted her remarks on the project and the points of congestion on the avenue. Engineer Fakhro explained that the main objective of changing the roundabout on the Palace Avenue into an intersection managed by time-controlled traffic signals in harmony with all traffic signals on the same avenue facilitates traffic flow.

Also, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works for roads suggested closing the thoroughfare on Shaikh Duaij Road leading to Gudaibyiay Mosque temperaritly in order to avoid current traffic congestions and to continue to monitor traffic on the same road by the directorate of roads' planning and design and also suggested making statistics which illustrate vehicles' flow in this project in order to determine the intake capacity after closing of the said thoroughfare, highlighting the need to notify drivers about the new route with the installation of traffic guidance signboards necessary to direct drivers and pedestrians in the area to alternative routes.

Also a discussion ensued regarding a proposed thoroughfare of the Zubara Avenue with Palace Avenue.

Engineer Huda Abdullah Fakhro also explained the purpose of the proposal to open the road and install a traffic signal at this intersection and to connect it with the rest of traffic signals on Palace Avenue in order to reduce traffic jams during the rush hours as much as possible and to provide a new thoroughfare for parallel residential and commercial districts.

Also, municipal member Ghazi Al-Dossary demanded a temporary paving of the street leading to Ahmed Al-Omran School i.e. Road No.: 2134 until such time when the project could be included in the program for the year 2013 as there are maintenance jobs belonging to the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) and another project belonging to sanitary engineering (i.e. sewerage systems).

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Ghazi Al-Dossary praised the efforts of the Ministry of Works in serving and satisfying citizens' needs and constant cooperation with members of municipal councils in general.

The meeting was attended by the director of Roads' Planning and Design, engineer Kazhim Abdullatif and also a number of ministry engineers. (IY)
