Earthquake jolts Nawabshah, two killed, 40 injured.

NAWABSHAH -- At least two persons lost their lives while more than 40 recieved injuries when earthquake jolted Nawabshah and its surroundings early in the morning on Friday.

According to meteorological department the first jolt, measuring 4.8 on richter scale was recorded at 4:07 am. Focal depth of the quake was 10 kilometer and its epicenter was 17 kilometer northeast of Nawabshah.

Another jolt having magnitude of 4.9 with focal depth of 10 kilometer was felt at 4:50 am when people were offering Fajr prayers.Its epicenter was 10 kilometer Northwest of Nawabshah.

Aftershocks of the earthquake continued almost for an hour while the quake jolts were also felt in other parts of the district including Qazi Ahmed, Jam sahib, Sakrand, Daur, Bandhi, Sarhari including parts of Sanghar and Naushehro Feroze districts.

The first jolt created panic and people came out of their houses reciting Quranic verses.The jolt continued for ten seconds due to which walls and roofs of several houses in suburbs demolished killing at least two persons and injuring more than 40.

Emergency was declared at Peoples University Medical Hospital where according to Medical Superintendent Dr Hashim Langah 40 injured persons including women and children were brought for treatment.

Condition of five injured persons was declared critical and they were shifted to Intensive Care Unit.

An old lady offering prayers told that during jolt heavy sounds were heard.

District administration announced holiday for schools and all the government offices.Meanwhile, Hyderabad Education Board has announced the cancellation of annual examination English paper of 11th class scheduled on Friday and new date of paper would be announced later.
