Earthquake Jolts Indonesia.
An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted Makassar strait, Sunday at 10.59 pm Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB). The quake's epicenter was located 6.11 degrees southern latitude and 117.55 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 19 km below sea level, and 232 km southwest of Makassar, according to Sujarwo, the head of the Makassar meteorological and geophysics office. "People should not panic because the magnitude is small. Should aftershock occur, the magnitude would be below 5.9 on the Richter scale," ANTARA quoted Sujarwo as saying. He also said the earthquake did not cause a consequent tsunami.
