Earthquake: 20 die, 55 hurt in Battagram, Torghar areas of KP.
Battagram -- At least 20 people, children and women among them, were killed and over 50 injured in Battagram and Torghar, two districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after a powerful 8.1 magnitude earthquake jolted the country Monday.
The death toll, it is feared, to go up, says media report adding that three villages in Torghar completely demolished.
In Battagram, 100 houses completely destroyed whole 500 were badly damaged and people were forced to spend under sky night in freezing temperature.
The earthquake struck the country at 2:09pm Monday. Tremors were felt in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Sialkot, Quetta, Peshawar, Swabi Kohat, Abbottabad, Swat, Malakand and other cities and towns of the country.
The death toll could climb in coming days because communications are down in much of the remote mountainous region.
The magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck in northeastern Afghanistan, the United States Geological Survey said.
The quake was 196km deep and centred 82km southeast of Feyzabad in a remote area of Afghanistan in the Hindu Kush mountain range.
According to USGS, the epicentre is 67km from Chitral.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said the magnitude of the earthquake was 8.1.
