Eagles flying above Ala-Too square during opening ceremony of Manas Monument.

A flock of eagles was flying above the central square Ala-Too in Bishkek on August 31 during the opening ceremony of the monument to the Generous Manas as witnessed by people present at the square. AKIpress offers a video of eagles hovering in the sky below. The rumors were spread in public that 40 eagles were set flying by the organizers intentionally. The head of the state directorate responsible for organization of celebrations of Kurmanjan Datka Year and 20th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan's independence, Sultan Raev, denied these allegations and called it a phenomenon. "The organizers did not have such possibility. This was a phenomenon," Sultan Raev said. Famous environmentalist and ornithologist Emil Shukurov provided scientific explanations of birds hovering above the square. "As far as I understood, that was black kite (Milvus migrans). The period of their active migration is now. It is not typical for golden eagles to form stocks. Though it is possible those were golden eagles," Emil Shukurov said. Click here to see video on
