DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1996--

Strong retail optical experience includes opening more

than 800 stores

EYEMAKERS(r) (OTC/BB:EYEM) announced Wednesday the appointment of Michael C. McCauley as chief operating officer. McCauley has more than 20 years of operations experience, including nine years in the optical industry.

Prior to joining EYEMAKERS(r), McCauley was General Merchandise manager of Wal-Mart's $300 million retail optical business. While there, he supervised the opening of more than 500 Wal-Mart optical departments generating $300 million in sales. Previously, McCauley was president of Bartholomew Design, a contract manufacturer of eyeglass frames. He also coordinated startup operations for worldwide expansion of One Hour Opticals for Ohio-based EDB Holdings and handled purchasing and distribution for Precision Lenscrafters.

"Having worked in the optical industry for nine years, and specifically at two of the industry's top five companies, I was excited to learn of, and join, an organization seeking to maximize profits in a doctor-driven manner," said McCauley. "It's a fact of life -- the doctor is the key to the business. As the independent doctor community learns of EYEMAKERS' strategy, there won't be anything to stop the momentum," McCauley added.

McCauley fills a newly created COO position. Previously, the company's CFO, Darrell Jolley, had also served as COO.

"Michael McCauley adds key operational strengths which will further prepare us to implement the nationwide expansion of our unique doctor-cooperative strategy," said Wayne Allison, president and CEO of EYEMAKERS(r).

The company's innovative approach gives independent optometrists a powerful marketing and management ally and permits them to directly benefit from the continuing growth in sales of glasses and contact lenses, particularly to aging baby boomers. By taking a comprehensive managed care approach to eye care, EYEMAKERS(r) is revolutionizing the industry by combining the convenience and selection of the large retail eye care chains, the value pricing strategy of discount retailers, and the personal attention and customer service of an optical boutique. The company's strategy empowers independent optometrists, emphasizes quality patient care and is backed by an aggressive marketing strategy designed to bring consumers in for regular eye exams.

EYEMAKERS(r) is a full service optometric practice management company headquartered in Dallas, which caters to the community of independent optometrists. The company is traded on the NASDAQ Bulletin Board under the symbol EYEM.
