IRVING, Texas, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Exxon Corporation (NYSE: XON) announced that its affiliate, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria, Ltd., (EEPN) today signed a production sharing agreement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The signing initiates an upstream presence in the country for Exxon. It is anticipated that Exxon will open an office in Nigeria to manage its operations on Block 209 and to continue pursuing other upstream business opportunities.
Participants in the signing for the Nigerian Government included the Honorable Phillip Asiodu, Secretary of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Dr. E. M. Daukoru, Group Managing Director of NNPC. Mr. G. C. Mudd, a director of Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria, Ltd. and Regional Vice President of Exxon Exploration Company, said, "Exxon looks forward to conducting exploration activity in this high potential area. We believe this is the beginning of a long term relationship which will mutually benefit the company and the government and people of Nigeria."
