EXPORT-IMPORT BANK APPOINTS MANUFACTURERS BANK PRESIDENT FOR SECOND TERM
DETROIT, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Eximbank) has appointed Michael T. Monahan, president, Manufacturers Bank, N.A., to its 12-member Advisory Committee for a second one-year term.
Eximbank is an independent U.S. government agency that helps to finance and facilitate the export of U.S. goods and services. It accomplishes this by absorbing reasonable credit risks that are beyond the reach of commercial lenders and exporters in financing the production and sales of exports, and by helping U.S. exporters meet officially supported foreign credit competition.
Eximbank's Advisory Committee was established by an act of Congress on Nov. 30, 1983. Members are appointed by Eximbank's board of directors.
During his first term in 1991, Monahan chaired the subcommittee for Project Finance and was active in the subcommittee for Credit Reform.
In Michigan, Monahan has been a strong proponent of the Michigan Export Development Authority (MEDA) and the programs it offers to small- and mid-size exporters and banks, programs also supported by the FCIA Management Company, Inc., and the Eximbank. "Michigan has a vested interest in encouraging exports," said Monahan. "Jobs hang in the balance. Opportunities to make export sales have never been better. Eximbank's improved and enhanced export support programs now offer the necessary fuel for U.S. companies to export their success abroad and for U.S. banks to re-engage in trade finance."
Manufacturers Bank, N.A., is the main bank of Manufacturers National Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: MNTL), a bank holding company headquartered in Detroit. On March 6, 1992, shareholders of Manufacturers National Corporation and Comerica Incorporated (NYSE: CMA) voted to approve the merger of the two organizations. The merger remains subject to certain other conditions, including approval by government regulators, before the transaction can be completed. Monahan has been appointed president and chief operating officer of the lead bank of the new Comerica.
