EXPORT FINANCE AWARDS -- IMPERIAL BANK AND CLIENT HONORED BY CEFO

LOS ANGELES, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Finding success today within California's business community can be a frustrating chore. Finding a small export business and a multibillion dollar bank whose working relationship has been publicly recognized as uniquely successful might even be a more difficult task.
However, Systems Integrated (SI) and Imperial Bank (NASDAQ: IBAN) were recently recognized by the California State World Trade Commission's Export Finance Office (CEFO) as the 1993 California Exporter of the Year and The Outstanding Export Lender for June 1993, respectively. Although these awards were independently awarded to SI and Imperial, both companies felt an extra degree of pride and pleasure because Imperial is also SI's bank.
"We are very proud of SI," stated Peter Knudson, senior vice president of Imperial's International Banking Division in Los Angeles. "Not only are they a very sophisticated computer technology company, they are extremely savvy international business people," he said.
SI is a privately held company, headquartered in Orange County, Calif., owned by its president, Susan Corrales-Diaz. For nearly two decades, SI has been providing its computer technology to domestic business, industry and government operations. In the late 1980s, SI recognized that many Asian and Pacific Rim countries had embarked on accelerated programs to improve their world status through massive infrastructure projects, such as hydroelectric dams and water distribution systems.
SI met the challenge and developed a standardized system specifically for the automation of hydroelectric dams. SI currently has active operations in South Korea and in the People's Republic of China.
When SI needed a business bank to help meet both its domestic and foreign finance needs, SI selected Imperial Bank. "It has been our best banking experience in our nearly 20 years," says Corrales-Diaz. "The officers that we work with on the international and the domestic commercial side really understand what we do. They were up and running with us in less than 48 hours from the first time we sat down and talked."
According to Irene Fisher, CEFO director, who presented the awards to Imperial and SI, "Right now, exports are the only area of growth in the California economy, and banks like Imperial know and understand Trade Finance. CEFO never hesitates to refer prospective exporters to them," she added.
Imperial Bank is a multifaceted, $3 billion financial institution which is celebrating its 30th anniversary serving California's middle- market business community. "Imperial's marketing strategy is based on an industry-specific philosophy," stated Norm Creighton, president and chief executive officer of Imperial Bank. "We do not attempt to be all things to all businesses. Our statewide delivery system is designed to serve specific market segments such as trade finance. This allows us to create sophisticated programs tailored to the individual needs of companies such as Systems Integrated. If we weren't focused on certain industries, we could never provide adequate service to entrepreneurs like Susan Corrales-Diaz."
