EXPERTS TO EXPLORE STATE OF INSURANCE INDUSTRY

WAYNE, Pa., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Is the insurance market in crisis? Headlines filled with news of insolvent domestic carriers, shrinking coverage capacity, and questions about the viability of Lloyd's of London have caused many to speculate on this question.
At "Mealey's 1994 Insurance Insolvency and Reinsurance Roundtable," to be held March 3 to 5 at the Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, Ariz., a distinguished international panel of legal and market experts will participate in an interactive exploration of these and other issues critical to the industry.
The driving forces behind the insurance market, liquidation of insurance companies, international insolvency, and collecting reinsurance from companies who won't or can't pay, are among the topics up for discussion at the event, sponsored by Mealey Publications Inc. of Wayne.
Willem Dikland, chairman of Netherlands Reinsurance Group, will tell why NRG pulled out of the U.S. market. Herbert Goodfriend, director of insurance analysis at KPMG Peat-Marwick, will assess the state of the reinsurance industry, and two London-based economists will give "a realistic appraisal" of the London market.
Other topics to be considered include liquidations from a policyholder's and reinsurer's view; asset recovery; insurance coverage of expenses; confidentiality of insurance and reinsurance information; and regulatory concerns.
Conference Chairman Jonathan Bank of Buchalter, Nemer, Fields & Younger in Los Angeles has assembled an experienced panel of American and British attorneys active in the litigation.
In addition, speakers will include high ranking executives from such companies as: Aetna Casualty & Surety; American Reinsurance Co.; International Insurance Co.; ITT Hartford; NAC Reinsurance Corp.; North American Reinsurance Corp.; Prudential Reinsurance Co.; Sedgwick Payne Co.; and Underwriters Reinsurance Co.
Among those representing the European view will be executives and partners from Price Waterhouse, KPMG Peat Marwick, Ernst & Young, and Coopers & Lybrand, all in London, and Hannover Ruckversicherungs - AG in Germany.
