How can I deal with this muddy mess? ? I'VE moved into a house on a new estate where the soil is very compacted and yellow and clay-like. You must dig over this layer of soil to loosen it then order enough topsoil so it will be at least six inches to nine inches deep after it has settled.

Invaded by a mass army of woodlice ? MY greenhouse is overrun with woodlice. Will they cause any damage? -Mike Barker, Boston, Lincs THEY are usually harmless and spend most of their time in damp areas. But if there are a lot of them it is possible that they will chew on plant roots and leaves and can ruin a tray of seedlings overnight. The best control is not to leave piles of rotting vegetation around.
