EXIDE ELECTRONICS APPOINTS NEW CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, WILLIAM TIPPETT

 RALEIGH, N.C., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Exide Electronics (NASDAQ: XUPS), a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of power protection solutions, today announced the appointment of William Tippett to the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Tippett brings to Exide Electronics many years of leadership experience in customer-focused business operations and general management. Up until his employment at Exide Electronics, he was General Manager of the Hewlett Packard Company's Loveland, Colorado Manufacturing Center.
 As Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Tippett will have P&L responsibility for Exide Electronics' operating units, including its Small Systems Group, Large Systems Group and Worldwide Services Group. He is responsible for evolving the Company into a fully integrated, added value, multi-site international enterprise, with a continued commitment to profitability, efficiency, and high quality products and services.

 Tippett's academic credentials include a BSEE Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as an MBA from Harvard University. Born and raised in Greensboro, N.C., Tippett, his wife, Deanna, and daughter Lisa, will be establishing residence in the Raleigh area in the near future.
