EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF McDONNELL DOUGLAS REFUTES
AVIATION WEEK REPORT CONCERNING THE PENTAGON
ST. LOUIS, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- John P. Capellupo, executive vice president of McDonnell Douglas (NYSE: MD), today refuted a Sept. 7 Aviation Week report that the Pentagon has told McDonnell Douglas to "cease its strident lobbying campaign for the sale" of 72 F-15s to Saudi Arabia. The report quotes a so-called "McDonnell Douglas official" as saying, "We are being threatened and muzzled by the administration."
 Capellupo's statement follows:
"The referenced quote of an unnamed 'McDonnell Douglas official' in the Aviation Week story is not true. We have been neither threatened nor muzzled. Our customer does not do business that way. If some irresponsible person did say such a thing, he or she was not speaking from any knowledge, and we do not tolerate that kind of behavior.
"We are doing our best to get a green light on this order, and for someone to speak out on it without the facts is reprehensible. No responsible McDonnell Douglas employee would or could say such a thing. We remain optimistic that the administration will support the Saudi sale."
