EXECUTIVE MOVES.

Arthur R. (Tim) McMurrich has been appointed to the position of vice president, risk management, at the Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada. His responsibilities include assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of the risk management process and developing and implementing strategies to improve risk management for Sun Life's U.S. operations. McMurrich first joined the company in 1968.

Beth Grossman has been promoted to the position of director of industry relations at Pearl River, N.Y-based ACORD. She first joined the company in 1992 and has been in the insurance business for 18 years.

Suzanne Reade has been appointed president of the newly founded Urban Insurance Partners Foundation (UIPF), based in Indianapolis. She formerly served as a CNA executive responsible for public affairs.

David Hill has been promoted to resident vice president within Reliance Insurance Co., based in Philadelphia. He previously served as assistant vice president in the Northeast Region of Reliance Commercial Accounts Division. He began his career with Reliance in 1987 as commercial accounts manager. Hill has been in the industry for 22 years.

ABD Insurance and Financial Services has announced Debora W. Karstetter has been elected to serve as president of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists for the year. Karstetter is currently managing partner of ABD employee benefits division and is a member of the executive committee. She has been active with the society since 1988.

Michele Rebec has been promoted within the St. Louis-based NaviSys Enterprise Solutions division to director of client services for life support plus, its IBM AS/400-based life administration system. She has 16 years of experience and will be responsible for the coordination and assignment of technical resources for all Life Support Plus client projects.

In other promotions at NaviSys, Mark Friedel has assumed the position of vice president of the division and will be responsible for overseeing all areas of divisional operations and new product development. Friedel has 13 years of experience. Steve Bryzneal has been promoted to executive director of client services and will be responsible for directing client implementations of NaviSys' web products and services. He has 19 years' experience.

William S. Clark has been promoted to first vice president of insurance operations within the workers' compensation insurance unit of Reliance, CyberComp, based in Lawrenceville, N.J. He serves as first vice president of claims for CyberComp. Clark first joined the company in 1997 as vice president of claims.

Jay S. Benet and Mary Jean Thornton have been promoted within the Hartford, Conn.-based Travelers Life & Annuity. Benet has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer. He first joined the company in 1990. Thornton has been named executive vice president, operations, and chief information officer. She first joined the company in 1985 and worked as senior vice president, operations until 1995. In 1999 she rejoined Travelers as chief information officer.

Christopher M. Lewis has been appointed managing director of NetRisk's insurance advisory services group based in Greenwich, Conn. He formerly worked for Ernst & Young within its risk management and regulatory practice. Lewis is a member of the American Finance Association, the American Risk and Insurance Association, and the American Economic Association.

Reinsurance Company of Hannover, based in Orlando, Fla., has made four new appointments to its new Group Life and Special Risk reinsurance unit. David Nussbaum will lead the new division and brings with him 22 years of experience. Gerald Levy will support the team in an advisory capacity and has 35 years of insurance/ reinsurance experience. Miriam Kaufman and Jake Cabigas, both underwriters, will staff the new unit.

ACE Bermuda, based in Hamilton, Bermuda, has appointed Rees Fletcher to the position of senior vice president, excess liability. He first joined ACE in 1989. Fletcher has 11 years of experience in excess liability underwriting.
