EX-STEELER STAR JON KOLB JOINS FOREST INDUSTRY GROUP
PITTSBURGH, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Ex-Pittsburgh Steelers star, Jon Kolb, has joined the Nortim Corporation as rehabilitation services manager, it was announced today.
Nortim is a contract management company providing risk management service for timber harvesting operations in Pennsylvania and other states.
Kolb will analyze rehabilitation centers being used by Nortim throughout the commonwealth and will coordinate and monitor treatment protocol.
Kolb graduated from Oklahoma State University and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in March 1969 and played with the Superbowl Steelers until 1981. Since his retirement, Kolb has been the Steelers' strength and conditioning coach -- testing, conditioning and rehabilitating professional football players.
Kolb and his wife, Deborah, make their home in Pittsburgh.
"Jon Kolb will be asked to apply the principles of sports medicine and strength-and-rehabilitation conditioning activities to the 'cutting edge' of Pennsylvania's important forest products industry," said Patrick Fleming, president of Nortim. "Jon's role will be a pioneering one, like many of Nortim's education, safety, training, certification, care and follow-up activities," Fleming said.
The forest products industry is a vital economic resource in Pennsylvania. It is the commonwealth's third largest industry. Among its 100,000 workers, 3,500 of them are loggers, who provide the basic "raw material" in the industry.
"The continued health and employment of these loggers is a major concern, and much already has been done over recent years to improve their health, reduce their injuries, and continue high employment and productivity. Our task will be to push this progress further and provide more unique methods and procedures to improve the logger's welfare, on the job and off the job," Kolb said.
