EVN ANNOUNCES RESULTS FOR THE FIRST THREE QUARTERS ENDED MAY 31, 1993

VIENNA, Austria, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Energie-Versorgung Niederosterreich ("EVN"), one of Austria's largest public utility companies, today announced results for the first three quarters ended May 31, 1993.
During the first three quarters of 1992/1993, EVN increased sales and expansion in all energy supply networks.
-- Electricity sales increased by 3.5 percent (4,100 Gwh)
-- Gas sales were up 6.0 percent (1,011 million m(3))
-- Heating sales increased 13.9 percent (115 Gwh)
Due to increased sales, revenues rose by 4.8 percent compared with the same period last year (electricity revenues were up 3.7 percent, gas revenues up 7.2 percent and heating revenues up 11.9 percent).
EVN subsidiaries continue to perform well and are expected to make a positive contribution to the results for the full year.
EVN shares continue to be one of the most attractive listed on the Austrian Stock Exchange and EVN ranks second of all listed companies in Austria with a total volume of 8,457 billion shares traded between Jan. 4 and June 30, 1993. During the same period, EVN's shares rose by 26.4 percent whereas the Austrian Share Index ATX rose by only 17.8 percent.
On March 22, 1993 EVN stock was traded on SEAQ International in London and together with our ADR program we have been able to increase the liquidity of the shares and provide easier access to EVN stock for international investors.
On June 25 over 500 Austrian shareholders visited our hydro-electric plant in Ottenstein, Lower Austria. This visit was hosted by Dr. Rudolph Gruber, chairman of the board. As has become usual practice, presentations were made to fund managers and analysts in London, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, New York and Boston following the half year results announcement in April.
Following the announcement of the results, Dr. Gruber commented, "The major seasonal fluctuations characteristic of the power industry make it almost impossible to extrapolate results for the entire year. However, the steady increase in sales during the first three quarters of 1992/1993 provides a solid base for the results for the entire financial year.
The next letter to shareholders will be published at the end of July.
