EVERTON boss David Moyes is trying to sign Dutch midfielder Leroy Fer - nicknamed The Bouncer.

The 6ft 2in Feyenoord star has been likened to Patrick Vieira because of his size and tackling ability.

Fer, 20, is a Holland Under-21 international, and sources at the Rotterdam club say they expect him to join Everton.

Moyes may have to fork out about pounds 4million, with his hand forced by the loss of free agent Dan Gosling.

Fer, whose father was a football international for Netherlands Antilles and his mother a top baseball player, has been with Feyenoord since he was nine.

Everton have been trailing him for months and need to move quickly before he makes the full Dutch national side and moves beyond their price range.

Moyes has money to spend on reinforcements for his squad and Fer comes with huge potential sell-on value if he is a Premier League success. Fer has been playing first-team football since he was 17 and the feeling in Holland is that he is ready to move on.
