EVERHART NAMED PRESIDENT OF MEAD DATA CENTRAL

DAYTON, Ohio, April 5 /PRNewswire/ --- Mead Corporation (NYSE: MEA) announced today that Rodney L. Everhart has been named president of its electronic publishing subsidiary, Mead Data Central, Inc.
Everhart, who was controller of the corporation, also has served as acting president of Mead Data Central (MDC) since November 3, 1992. A new controller will be named.
"Having conducted an extensive nationwide search for a new president, I concluded Rod was the outstanding choice to lead change at Mead Data Central," said Steven C. Mason, chairman and chief executive officer. "As acting president, Rod has already begun to clarify MDC's future direction. He helped craft an ambitious 1993 business plan that focuses on what needs to be done to drive a market-customer focus throughout MDC. I am convinced Rod will demand a new perspective on every issue and opportunity the company faces."
Everhart joined Mead as vice president of financial resources and administration for MDC in January 1989. In addition to his primary responsibilities, he served as acting vice president of human resources and business information services for periods during his tenure, before being named corporate controller in September 1992.
Prior to joining Mead, Everhart played key financial and operations management roles in various units of the General Electric Company, including Major Appliances, Appliance Components and Capacitor Products. More recently, he was responsible for financial planning and analysis at GE Information Systems in Rockville, Md. In 1986, he left GE to become chief financial officer and treasurer of Systems and Computer Technology Corporation in Malvern, Penn.
"Rod possesses a depth and breadth of knowledge about the information systems business and information technology, plus a thorough understanding of MDC today," said Mason. "He is well equipped to shape a new, customer-focused organization which will be the leader in its chosen markets. Mead is changing, MDC is changing, and Rod understands the corporation's vision and expectations for MDC in the 1990s."
Originally from Zanesville, Ohio, Everhart was graduated with honors from the University of Illinois in 1964, where he received a B.S. degree in management. He currently resides in Springboro, Ohio.
