EVERGREEN INTERNATIONAL AVIATION TO EXPLORE STRATEGIC ALTERNATIVES FOR SUBSIDIARY

    MCMINNVILLE, Ore., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Evergreen International Aviation, Inc. today announced that it will explore a number of strategic alternatives for its wholly owned subsidiary, Evergreen Aviation Ground Logistics Enterprises, Inc., or EAGLE.  The company will consider a sale of some or all of its interest in EAGLE.  Evergreen is the world's largest Boeing 747 contract air freight carrier, based on fleet size, and also provides a wide variety of aviation services including aircraft maintenance and overhaul, contract helicopter services and aircraft leasing and brokering services around the world.
    EAGLE is a leading provider of ground handling and support services at 23 locations throughout the United States.  Such services include aircraft handling for domestic and international cargo and passenger aircraft, cargo handling and warehousing, express mail and sortation services, ground service equipment maintenance and leasing and airport property management.  In the announcement, Delford M. Smith, Evergreen International Aviation's founder and chairman, said, "EAGLE is a very profitable business with an excellent history of success.  There have been a number of unsolicited expressions of interest in EAGLE and we've decided to explore the market's interest formally."
    BT Securities Corporation, a unit of Bankers Trust New York Corporation (NYSE: BT), has been retained by Evergreen International Aviation to evaluate EAGLE's strategic alternatives.
