EUGENE A. LARSON ELECTED TO ATL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

BOTHELL, Wash., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Eugene A. Larson, ATL (NASDAQ-NMS: ATLI) executive vice president, has been elected to the company's board of directors, Dennis C. Fill, ATL chairman and chief executive officer, announced today. As a director, Larson will continue to be closely involved with the strategic direction of the company, as well as with the development of ATL's digital ultrasound technology and its growing use in new medical applications. Concurrent with his election to the board of directors, Larson is resigning his executive management position, will resume his earlier position as a consultant to ATL, and will serve as a member of the ATL Scientific Advisory Board.
"I am delighted that Gene will be returning to the board," Fill said. "As an ATL board member, Gene will expand his current activity with the medical community to advance new applications of ATL's ultrasound technology. He will also continue in his public role as a spokesman for the growing clinical use and potential of our technology."
Since early 1987, Larson has served ATL in many capacities, including as president in 1988 and 1989. At that time, it was Larson's wish to step out of the company's day-to-day operations to enable him to focus on the development of ATL's product and strategic planning. He subsequently became executive vice president in 1991 to spearhead the strategic development and rollout of ATL's digital Ultramark(R) 9 High Definition(TM) Imaging system, introduced in April of that year. Since then, Larson has worked closely with leaders in the medical community to bring a new level of clinical efficacy to ultrasound imaging with ATL's technology.
"I have a deep personal commitment to develop new applications of our technology that improve quality of life and patient care," Larson said. "I believe ATL's ultrasound technology can reduce the cost, trauma and discomfort associated with the diagnosis of disease and improve patient outcome in many diseases. It also has the potential to augment pharmacological technologies emerging from the biotechnology arena to positively impact both the treatment of disease and health-care costs."
ATL, with headquarters in Bothell, is a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of medical ultrasound systems. ATL stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol ATLI.
