EU is hit by bird flu.
Health experts confirmed yesterday the lethal H5N1 strain of the disease had been found in wild swans in Greece, Italy and Bulgaria.
The new cases show the virus - which has so far killed at least 88 people in Asia - is slowly creeping West.
Scientists fear millions will die if it mutates into a form which passes between humans.
David Nabarro, who heads a United Nations drive to contain the virus, yesterday said there was no evidence yet that the virus had mutated.
But he added: "It's not far away."
Last October the Sunday Mirror exclusively revealed how migratory swans from Russia and China risked spreading the disease here.
