EU contributes ,e1/45 million to Kyrgyz state budget.

The European Union has disbursed e1/45 million to the state budget of the Kyrgyz Republic under its Sector Policy Support and Response to Soaring Food Prices programmes, the European Commission's Delegation to Kyrgyzstan said. Out of this allocation, e1/43 million was disbursed in the framework of the "Sector Policy Support Programme Kyrgyzstan 2007-2009 in Social Protection and Public Finance Management". It is the third disbursement following earlier contributions in June and December 2008 (for total e1/47.9 million). The overall amount for the three-year programme is e1/425.5 million, with disbursement being subject to the fulfillment of conditions related to reform in the targeted sectors. With this contribution under the Sector Policy Support Programme, the European Union continues to support state budget of the Kyrgyz Republic with almost e1/4 110 million grant resources allocated since 1996. This assistance targets food security, social reform and public finance management measures. It makes the EU one of the leading donors in this type of assistance in the Kyrgyz Republic. The Sector Policy Support Programme promotes reforms in social protection, particularly targeting the social benefits system; child protection, including the establishment of regional Family and Children Support Departments; and public finance management, prioritizing the improvement of internal audit and control systems, and the Medium Term Budget Framework (MTBF). Furthermore, an allocation in the amount of e1/42 million was made within the "Response to Soaring Food Prices" programme, aimed at supporting the Kyrgyz government in its financing of social benefits to the most vulnerable groups in society. The programme sets out a number of conditions, which, if complied with by the government, may trigger an additional disbursement of maximum e1/43 million to support the state budget in 2010.
