EU calls for power mix; UPDATE.

THE EU and Pakistan have agreed there can be no talk of deploying a peace-keeping force in Afghanistan until a broad-based multi-ethnic government had been decided upon for the country.

After talks in Islamabad yesterday, an EU delegation and Pakistan's president, General Pervez Musharraf, issued a statement saying the international community must not waver from its consensus on Afghanistan's future.

Leaders of rival Afghan factions will meet in Germany on Tuesday to discuss setting up a post-Taliban government which must be "acceptable to all Afghans".

General Musharraf - who took power in a military coup - also reiterated his commitment to returning Pakistan to civilian rule.
